I considered writing a year-end review in which I congratulated and thanked all of you for our victories and growth in 2018.
I thought about writing about 2019 and the need to win the races for county, local and school board seats, as well as the judgeships that will be on the ballot. After all, these folks are the ones who will directly determine our property taxes and resolve our disputes.
But I’m not going to do either of those things because there is a much greater calling.
Our nation is about to experience its most severe domestic test since the Civil War…and our first obligation as Democrats and citizens is to protect and defend it.
It is now apparent that our President personally engaged in illegal activity that contributed to his election.
It is now apparent that our President is and was compromised by Russia and its agents who helped him win the election…providing a plausible rationale for his many actions favoring Putin’s agenda over America’s best interests.
It is now apparent that our President is using all the resources at his disposal to obstruct and discredit the special counsel’s investigation.
It is now apparent that our President-who uses hate and fear to set us against one another and who attacks the cornerstones of our Democracy from the free press to the judiciary-is the true ‘enemy of the people.’
It should also be apparent that this President and the leaders of the Republican Party who enable him will not give up power easily no matter how compelling the facts presented in Mr. Mueller’s final report.
And so I am writing to you today asking you to stay vigilant, to be vocal and visible, to go outside your comfort zone. I am asking you to be LOUD and PERSISTENT and UNAFRAID in the days, weeks and months ahead.
Thank you so much for everything you have done and all that you will do. Together, we will protect our people, restore our values and defend our Democracy.
