KAD is embarking on several projects to increase our involvement in the community: 1) sponsoring fundraising efforts on behalf of critical non-profit services in our area, 2) participating in voter registration drives to make sure all citizens have the opportunity to vote, and 3) exploring ways to organize squads of volunteers for local organizations.
Our first fundraising activity is for the Kennett Area Community Service (KACS) and their food cupboard. We will present the money we have raised through our members to the KACS leadership at our next KAD meeting on Aug. 13. To participate in our fundraising effort, please make your check payable to KACS and mail it to me at 452 Larkspur Dr., Kennett Square 19348
KACS “works with over 1400 of our neighbors to ensure these families have enough food and a warm place to live.” They serve people living in the Kennett, Unionville-Chadds Ford and Avon Grove School Districts. KACS clearly deserves our support and is an excellent starting point for our Community Involvement Project.
In September, we will be participating in two important voter registration events, the first in conjunction with a statewide campaign on Sept. 19 to reach out to the growing Latino community in the Kennett Area. We will follow that up with our participation in the Vive tu Vida festival on Sept. 26, 10:00am – 2:00pm, in Anson B. Nixon Park in Kennett Square.
¡Vive tu vida! Get Up! Get Moving!
Finally, watch for our participation in Kennett’s Mushroom Festival parade on Sept. 11. The parade theme this year is “We Remember,” to honor the volunteers and career professionals in Emergency Services who help us when we need it most. There will be dining and dancing in the streets following the parade. Join us for any or all of these activities. “We care” and we hope you do too.
