In The Kennett Spotlight
Dr. Lisa DeLeonardo

If you visited the KAD Campaign Office in Kennett Square in the past few weeks, you probably witnessed a beehive of activity.  Along with the normal mid-term election year buzz, you might have seen scores of volunteers addressing envelopes, folding letters to go into those envelopes, and, finally, sealing said envelopes to be mailed to some 14,000 residents of Southern Chester County. Of course, such an operation does not happen miraculously; it needs an able manager to make it happen. The manager-extraordinaire for this direct mail project is Dr. Lisa DeLeonardo.

Lisa, a psychologist in private practice in Hockessin, Delaware, is a graduate of Towson University in Towson, Maryland, and Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky. Professionally, she is on the Advisory Board for the Delaware chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI-DE). Recreationally, she loves whale-watching, music, and traveling.

Lisa first became affiliated with KAD in 2004, during the John Kerry presidential run. She credits Miriam Greenberg, an indefatigable, former precinct committee person with mentoring and encouraging her to volunteer. By 2008, she was canvassing for the Obama campaign, and by 2012, training others to canvass as well. She was motivated to campaign for President Obama because he is “inspirational, thoughtful, fair, and respectful of the opinion of others.”

Lisa has one more project to complete before Election Day, November 6th: managing the distribution of 9,000 door hangers for the Get Out the Vote (GOTV) literature drop, during the week before the election. With a willing army of volunteers (“who are amazing,” she says), she will blanket the county with reminders to vote for Tom Wolf, John Fetterman, Bob Casey, Chrissy Houlahan, Anton Andrew, and Christina Sappey. Lisa’s significant role will always be remembered in what we believe will be the historic Blue Wave of 2018.
