As of June 8 we will be five months out from the General Election. We will have our chance then to help set the direction for our country and to help move our state forward. Pundits have said the presidential candidates will not be able to unite their parties. I disagree.
As Democrats, we know what we believe. We believe education is the best, most important investment we can make for our future. We believe in protecting our environment. We believe climate change is real and must be addressed. We believe our laws should reflect our heritage as a nation of immigrants. We believe all people should be treated with dignity and respect, no matter their race or religion, gender or sexual orientation. We believe in raising the minimum wage and that women should be paid the same as men doing the same job. We believe women should be free to make their own health care choices.
We also know what unites Republicans – walls at our borders, voter ID laws, the repeal of the Affordable Care Act, and spending limitations that restrict investments in education, environmental protection and infrastructure enhancements.
I cannot stress enough the importance of this election. We need your vote from the top of the ballot to the bottom. And before that the Kennett Area Democrats need your help to make sure everyone who shares our beliefs turns out to vote on Nov. 8. Please volunteer today. We have work to do.
