ELAINE DIMONTE, Candidate for Pocopson Township Board of Supervisors

Elaine DiMonteI have been a resident of Pocopson since 2008 and have served as Township Supervisor, in the position of Vice Chair, since 2016.

During my tenure, I strived to listen to the residents and to be thoughtful and balanced in making decisions while adhering to the 2nd Class Township Code and overall governance.  There are times when difficult decisions need to be made and it is important to me to gather all the necessary information in order to make the best decision for the Township.

My background and career in IT Management and leadership positions in the Finance & Pharmaceutical sectors provides me with the business management knowledge and skill set that’s been a strong asset for governing the Township.  A few achievements during my tenure include:

  1. With the onset of COVID-19, quickly pivoted to ensure continuity of township operations with no impact to the community.
  2. Due to staff turnover, outsourced Treasury services to a local CPA firm and completed the smooth transition of responsibilities.  A benefit of this change is to introduce new best practices into our processes.
  3. Township facilities analysis usage resulting in the decision to construct a new Township Building.
  4. No increase in local taxes
  5. Supported the formation of the Kennett Fire & EMS Regional Commission
  6. Supported the Pocopson resident Volunteer Fire tax credit.
  7. Committed to the County program for 100% renewable energy by 2050.

I am running for re-election because I truly enjoy serving this great community.  Pocopson is a gem in a busy world and my focus for the next term is to continue to keep it a very special place while positioning and planning for the future of the Township.

Thank you for your support!

STEVE SIMONSON, Candidate for Unionville Chadds Ford School Director Region B

Steve Simonson has represented Region B on the UCFSD School Board since 2013. He and his wife, Ruth, have lived in the district since 1996. Both of their sons attended our schools, participated in extracurricular programs, and graduated from Unionville High School. Steve is a pulmonary and critical care physician who practiced medicine before moving to the pharmaceutical industry.

Education is important to Steve, so when there was an opening, he ran for School Board to support this great school system. During his time on the Board, Steve has chaired the Legislative, Policy, and Personnel Committees and served on the Negotiation Committee. He has been Vice President of the Board since 2017. Steve works collaboratively with other Board members as they address issues, discuss them honestly, and reach decisions.

The Unionville Chadds Ford School District schools serve children and our community exceptionally well. This is the result of the hard work of proven administrators, excellent faculty and staff, high parental engagement, and great students. The positive climate and culture evident in each of our schools is highly rated by students, parents, and staff.

Steve’s priorities on the Board include

  • ensuring we maintain the exceptional quality of this school system moving forward,
  • providing the best possible school environment for learning, growth, and safety,
  • continuing to attract and retain superb teachers, administrators, and staff,
  • while being fiscally prudent and making wise use of our tax dollars.
