In the Kennett Spotlight
Victoria Wiedwald

Family. Spirituality. Politics. These are the threads that most clearly run through the fabric of Victoria Wieldwald’s colorful life.

For Victoria, the Vice-Chair of the Kennett Area Democrats, politics has been a defining characteristic since her childhood. Growing up in Wilmington, Delaware, her father – a philosophy minor – encouraged Victoria and her sister to delve deep and respectfully explore their personal and political beliefs around the dinner table.

After relocating to Boston in 1969 with her husband, Gary, Victoria became involved with the local League of Women Voters, eventually serving as the chapter’s vice president. When her three children entered school, she launched her career in marketing and communications with TMG, a women-owned business partnering with Fortune 500 companies. This job brought her back to the area in 1991, when she helped start up the company’s Wilmington office, working on new business development. A chance encounter at the Delaware Symphony Orchestra initiated a career change, and she became the DSO’s marketing director for three years.

When Victoria and her husband retired, she wanted to get back to basics, enjoying time with her family and promoting the values most important to her – empowering women, advocating for sensible gun reform, and protecting our environment – through activism and public service. Four years ago, she became a committee person in the Kennett Township (KT-2 precinct) and has been ramping up her participation in KAD since. She now serves as Vice-Chair.

Outside of KAD and community-building endeavors, Victoria has rediscovered her passion for cooking. She entertains often and even hosts her son-in-law for a monthly cooking marathon, where – with the help of two of her six grandkids – she prepares enough food for the family of four for the month. She is almost decided that her next big project will be writing her own cookbook, as food has always represented one of the ways she nurtures her friendships and family.

Victoria is a vibrant and energetic powerhouse within KAD, and people can’t help but follow her lead and absorb her enthusiasm.  KAD is lucky to have her passion and poise working to advance the Democratic Party’s priorities every day.
