Bio Qualifications:
Juan L. Tafolla is a community Leader and candidate for Kennett Square Borough Council. As the youngest candidate running for office in Kennett Square and Chester County and one of two Hispanics running for office, he already brings years of experience as a junior Borough Council member and as part of many non-profits in our area. Known for speaking up with bold ideas and connecting with constituents, Juan has built strong relationships with local, county, and state officials, and even represented Kennett Square internationally in a Representative role to Toluca, Mexico. Now studying law, criminal justice, and politics at West Chester University, Juan is focused on building a more inclusive, transparent, and fiscally responsible government that empowers residents of all backgrounds to shape the future of Kennett Square.
Why are you running for borough council?
My Priorities for the Borough are joining the Fire and Ems commission, ensuring transparent and ethical governance, and preserving the community’s diversity. My vision for the borough is a government where every resident feels valued and empowered, with leadership that prioritizes integrity and public service.
What three things in the Borough do you want to change or see come to fruition?
My Main priorities in the borough are
-Rejoin Fire and EMS because we are paying the same amount of money but without a voice in the commission.
‘Paying without Representation”
-Transparent and Ethical Government Establishment of an ethics commission to make sure State ethics codes are being followed with Ordinance and deals being done.
-Sewer and Roads and NVF. Look into expanding our Sewer plant through collaboration with other municipalities while maintaining it a borough asset and fixing our roads. Look closely at the development of NVF and make sure that if something gets built there, we first have to deal with the Borough infrastructure before we have a huge development being added.
-Inter-municipal collaboration to keep Kennett Square a Hub of opportunities and economic importance for residents and local businesses.
-Preserving Diversity in our borough by establishing projects through grants that promote our communities. Something I pursued when I was Jr. Council member.
