And his 50% tariff tax on Canadian goods just happened. We, of course, will pay the penalty and if it gets reimbursed by court order, the companies keep it!
Previous tariffs have followed this pattern:
Trump raises tariffs on international goods coming into US

Americans buy these international goods at higher prices because of tariffs

US gov collects tariffs which are actually Americans dollars paid on higher price goods
⬇️
Courts order tariffs need to be reversed

US gov pays tariffs back to companies who are happy to keep the money. Companies make billions more than before tariffs.

🛑 What a racket 🛑
Companies’ recent financial disclosures showed hundreds of millions, if not billions, in government payouts starting in May after the Supreme Court ruled that the Trump administration’s global tariffs were illegal.
Retail giant Walmart revealed this week that it got a $2.9 billion refund, while rival Target got $994 million. Apple got an estimated $2.2 billion. Ford got $1.3 billion. Home Depot got $730 million. Nike got $684 million. Amazon got $640 million.
