From Christina Sappey, PA State Representative:

Pennsylvania has some of the highest water rates in the nation and two of the largest water providers in the state have proposed a merger-basically creating a monopoly.  If allowed to pass, a merger of PA American Water and Essential Utilities (parent company of Aqua PA) would create the largest private water utility in the country.

An outsized company of this nature would have far-reaching consequences for ratepayers. Without viable competition for water/wastewater services, they would have exclusive control over setting prices.

I strongly oppose this merger and urge you to take action if you agree. The Public Utility Commission (PUC) is the statewide entity with the authority to approve this proposal. A series of Public Input Hearings, sponsored by the PUC, is your opportunity to speak up.

In-person Public Input Hearings will be held in Chester County at Penn State Great Valley Conference Center, 30 Swedesford Road in Malvern, PA on April 22 at 1:00 & 6:00PM. Telephonic Public Input Hearings will be on April 28th at 1:00PM & 6:00PM. If you wish to testify at the telephonic hearing, preregistration is encouraged by April 27th.

If you have questions on how to attend or speak up by phone, please feel free to call my office at 484-200-8264 or click here.
